At the Sign of the Prancing Pony

The Prancing Pony Farm Newsletter

Hi Reader,

My lovely Italian imported Maremma, Pegaso has an appointment at the vet early Wednesday morning, so he had a quick grooming session Tuesday night. Pegaso is such a beautiful and sweet boy. Importing him from Italy two years ago was a dream come true. It felt like a significant accomplishment as a breeder. I still remember how excited I was when I picked him up at the airport. Excited enough that I braved LA traffic and LAX by myself to get him, something I would never do for any other reason!

The reason Pegaso is going to the vet is unfortunate and breaks my heart. I didn’t know how sad it would make me until I decided to write about it. I didn’t expect it to make me cry, but it did. Wednesday is going to be a tough day.

Don’t worry—it’s not that bad. Pegaso will be coming home, and he will be okay. But the dream didn’t turn out quite how I expected it to. Which, of course, is how it is with dog breeding. It can be the happiest and the most challenging calling ever, all at the same time. (Yes, I believe it’s a calling.) Maybe it’s only by having hard times that you really appreciate the moments of pure joy.

I’ll write a blog post very soon about why Pegaso is going to the vet and what I’ve learned from this situation. As always, I will share the post with you guys first. So, if you want to learn more about Pegaso and why I’m so sad about his upcoming appointment, stay tuned.

Talk soon,

Kim
