Hi Reader,
Well. I owe you a small laugh at my expense.
Last week, you got two emails from me on the same day — my fireworks prep post and a training email I thought I had scheduled for this week. Turns out I had the dates mixed up and didn’t double-check before I hit schedule. Oops.
It happens. Honestly, it happened because I was so excited to get the fireworks email out in time for you to actually use it that I didn’t slow down long enough to look at what else was already queued up. Lesson learned. I’m putting “check the schedule” on a sticky note on my computer.
Anyway — happy Fourth of July week! 🎆
I hope you’re spending it with people (and animals) you love. Here on the farm, we’ll be doing our usual holiday routine: making sure everyone has what they need, keeping things calm, and probably explaining to at least one dog that the booming sounds are not, in fact, the end of the world.

Thinking about a livestock guardian dog — or already in the thick of raising one? I’m sharing a quick guide this week on the human skills that matter most before you ever start formal training.
Spoiler: most LGD struggles aren’t about the dog.
