At the Sign of the Prancing Pony

The Prancing Pony Farm Newsletter

Hi Reader,

I hope you’re having a great week. We have had a few nicer (cool) days lately so I think it’s safe to say it will be fall soon! I can’t wait. Having a farm and breeding Livestock Guardian Dogs in the summer in California is no fun. The animals are pretty miserable and so am I. We all just spend the day trying to stay cool and then we come alive after dark. The best thing about fall is being able to get my chores done in the daylight. I can’t wait!

Marcella’s puppies are almost 10 weeks old and getting so big and so cute! They are learning so much, including how to mand (sit politely for attention), all about livestock, clicker training and kids and so much more. I’ve got a lot of great photos and videos that I hope to get posted soon. I just can’t seem to get caught up on both my “inside” work and my “outside” work. I need a farm hand and an office assistant!

I am sharing a link to a fantastic podcast on Livestock Guardian Dogs with you. Mike Shikashio is one of my favorite dog trainers. He specializes in aggressive dogs and has a fantastic podcast called “The Bitey End of the Dog.” Recently he interviewed Elizabeth Ingalls, a dog trainer and Family Dog Mediator who specializes in companion and working Livestock Guardian Dogs. (Mostly Pyrs.) I’m sorry to say I had never even heard of Elizabeth Ingalls until I listened to this episode but I was absolutely blown away by her. She has a better understanding of LGDs than any trainer I have ever met or heard of. This interview is a great episode for anyone who would like to know more about LGDs and how to train them. Enjoy!

I love hearing from my subscribers. I want this newsletter to be dynamic and helpful to everyone. If you have any questions about Maremma Sheepdogs or Dairy goats, anything you’re struggling with, topics you’d like me to address in the newsletter, or anything at all you’d like to share, please let me know.

And if you know anyone who would benefit from this newsletter, please forward it to them!

Don’t be shy. Just hit reply and say hello!

Kim
