Your Journey to the Perfect Livestock Guardian Dog

Planning to add a Prancing Pony Farm Maremma to your farm and family? You're in the right place. This page walks you through everything from your first contact with us to bringing your new livestock guardian dog home.

You'll discover our simple process, understand what's included with every dog, learn about investment and pricing, and see how we match you with the perfect Maremma for your specific family situation.

Whether you're just exploring the possibility of adding a Prancing Pony Maremma to your life or ready to reserve your spot, you'll find clear answers here—no pressure, no confusion, just transparency.

We're discussing our dogs with multiple interested families at the same time. The only thing that holds a dog is a paid reservation. If you see a dog you want, don't wait. Text Kim to confirm availability, then pay your reservation fee here.

Buying a Maremma Sheepdog From Us is Easy!

Step 1

Get on the email list

This is where everyone starts. You'll receive several emails over the next week or two covering our program, our dogs, and what successful Maremma ownership actually looks like. This gives you everything you need to decide if we're the right fit — before either of us invests more time.

Step 2

Apply and book a call

When you're ready to move forward, you'll fill out a short application and schedule a phone call with me at the same time. The application helps me understand what you're looking for in a dog before we talk. The call is where we actually figure out if one of our dogs is the right match for you.

Step 3

Reserve your dog

Reservations start with a $500 non-refundable Master Reservation Fee that holds your place in line and applies toward your purchase price. When a litter is confirmed, a second $500 Litter Commitment Payment locks your specific spot — bringing your total to $1,000, all applied toward your purchase price.

Have a current litter available right now? If spots on an announced litter are open, you can skip the line and reserve directly with a single $1,000 Litter Reservation — same total investment, one step. I'll let you know on our call if that option is currently available.

Questions about the process? Our Sales Policies & Reservations page has the details.

After You Apply: Reserve Your Puppy

How Much Does a Puppy Cost?

Investment in Your Family's Peace of Mind

Puppies start at $3,500, with final payment due at 12 weeks. Older puppies, adolescents, and adults are priced individually and require full payment to hold. We don't offer multi-dog or cash discounts, but we do give placement priority to families planning to add two dogs.

This investment reflects our commitment to ethical breeding, comprehensive health testing, professional training methods, and lifetime breeder and trainer support—everything you need for your family's success with your livestock guardian dog.

How Our Maremma Selection Process Works

We Match You With the Right Dog for YOUR Family

Every family is different—different animals, different kids, different property, different goals. We take time to understand your specific situation so we can match you with a Maremma who'll thrive in your unique home and family.

Here's how it works:

1. Get on the email list — this gets you into our system so we can send you information about our program and available dogs.

2. Apply and book your free Maremma Discovery Call — one form does both. The application gives me the background I need before we talk, and you'll book your call at the same time. No pressure, no commitment — just a real conversation with a KPA-certified trainer and Code of Ethics breeder who's been working with Maremmas since 2016.

3. Pay your reservation fee when ready — a $500 non-refundable Master Reservation Fee holds your place in line. When a litter is born and you're ready to commit to it, a second $500 Litter Commitment Payment locks your specific spot — bringing your total reservation investment to $1,000, all of which applies toward your purchase price. If there's already an open litter available when we talk, I'll let you know — in that case you can skip the two-step process and reserve directly with a single $1,000 Litter Reservation. No Maremma can be held without a paid reservation.

4. We match you with your perfect dog — using your application, our conversations, and our observations of each puppy's temperament, we'll match you with the Maremma that fits your family best.

5. Final payment is due at 12 weeks — your remaining balance is paid at that time. We'll send your contract through Breeder Cloud Pro for digital signing once final payment is made. We require full payment to hold puppies and dogs 12 weeks or older.

*Important note on payment and contracts: All payments are processed by credit or debit card through our secure website. A card processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 applies to all dog purchases and is added automatically at checkout — the exact total is shown before you confirm. No other payment method is accepted, including bank or wire transfers. After final payment is received, your purchase contract will be sent through Breeder Cloud Pro for digital signature. Pickup and shipping cannot be scheduled until both payment and a signed contract are complete.

6. Every litter has a specific Go-Home Window — a two-week period that opens roughly one week after puppies turn 12 weeks old. Twelve weeks is our minimum age, not your pickup date. Final deworming, vaccinations, microchipping, contracts, and payment all happen in those first days after the 12-week mark.

Everything Your Family Needs for Success

When you welcome a Prancing Pony Farm Maremma into your family, you're not just getting a dog—you're getting comprehensive support designed to ensure your success from day one through your dog's entire life.

Our goal is simple: to make your livestock guardian dog experience joyful and stress-free, not another source of worry. We've spent years perfecting our approach so your family can focus on enjoying your farm and family while your Maremma does what they do best—protect your beloved animals.

Here's everything included with your Maremma:

Professional Puppy Training & Socialization Program

Our in-depth and comprehensive puppy socialization and training program takes advantage of the puppies' critical socialization periods. Pups are socialized extensively with livestock and introduced to various people and experiences. Our unique program prepares our puppies for life as LGDs, companion dogs or both.

MSCA or UKC Registration

Pups come with registration with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America and/or the United Kennel Club. We will register the puppy for you once you decide on a permanent name, then we will send the registration form to you via email for you to print out. We will also supply medical records for your Maremma

Puppy Contract

Our contract outlines what we will do for you as your breeder and our expectations of you as the owner of your puppy

24-Month Genetic Health Guarantee

Our 24-month genetic health guarantee protects you and your pup in the event of health issues arising. We will either replace your dog or assist you if a genetic health issue is identified.

Microchipping

Prepaid microchip registered to you with lifetime enrollment in the Petlink pet recovery system. As guardian on the account, if your dog is lost and you can't be located, we can help get them back home.

Vaccinations

Pups are on an age-appropriate vaccine schedule, starting at six weeks. Rabies vaccine not included.

Parasite Prevention

Pups are on a regular parasite prevention program starting at 2 weeks old.

Trupanion Health Insurance

Pups come with a breeder code for 30 days of free health insurance through Trupanion.

Lifetime Breeder Support

We are ALWAYS available for any questions or concerns you have about your dog. You can reach us by phone, text, or email. If at any time you can no longer keep your dog we will take them back.

Lifetime Professional Training Support

As a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, I offer free professional training support and services for as long as you own your dog. I am always here to offer advice, share resources, and help troubleshoot any issues you may encounter.

Not Quite Ready for the Go-Home Window? There's an Option for That.

Buyers who need additional time between their puppy's go-home window and their actual pickup date can add Extended Stay at the time of final payment. It's a structured program — not an informal arrangement — with published rates and a clear process. If timing flexibility matters to you, ask about it during your discovery call.

Investing in Your Puppy's Success

You're making a smart choice by researching quality Maremmas. Now take the next step: set yourself up for success.

The Dial Method® is a science-based framework that helps you understand your Maremma's unique needs—whether they'll be working livestock or living as a companion.

Most LGD challenges aren't about "bad dogs"—they're about misunderstanding. This program gives you the tools to work with your Maremma's independent nature instead of fighting it.

Available to add to your Maremma purchase.

A Few Things to Know Before You Reserve

Payment Hold Window

When you're ready to move forward, I'll send you a direct payment link to our secure website checkout. Because we often have multiple families interested in the same dog, I hold dogs for 24 hours once that link is sent. Completing payment within that window secures your dog. If the window passes, the dog becomes available to other waiting families.

Final Payment Timeline

Final payment is due on your puppy's 12-week birthday. You'll receive your payment link well in advance — often a week or more ahead of time — so there's no last-minute scrambling. Payment through our website takes less than two minutes and is available any time.

If payment isn't received within 48 hours of the due date, we reserve the right to offer the dog to the next family on our list and forfeit the reservation fee. This policy exists to be fair to every family waiting — including yours.
