Available Payment Methods

We offer three payment options for your convenience, each with different associated costs (and some with no fees):

1. Good Dog Payment Platform

Good Dog is a trusted third-party platform that connects responsible breeders with potential puppy owners. Their payment system includes built-in buyer protections and support services.

Good Dog Fee-Free Option for Clients Who Found Us on Our Website (our preferred payment method):

• Good Dog offers a fee-free option through bank transfer (ACH) to clients we bring to them for payment processing.
• This option does not include buyer protection, but you can add the protection plan (and other services) if you like.
• You may still incur transaction fees if you pay with a credit or debit card.
• Contact Good Dog directly for details on their fee-free payment options, or read the instructions further down this page on how to pay fee-free.

For clients who found us through Good Dog:

• Per Good Dog’s Terms of Service, all transactions must be processed through their platform.
• Prancing Pony Farm (as a breeder) and you (as a buyer) agreed to these terms when joining Good Dog.
• This requirement helps maintain the integrity of their breeder verification program and buyer protection services.

Pricing Structure:

• Base puppy price: $3,000
• Additional amount to cover 6.5% platform fee: $208.56
• Total price with fee: $3,208.56

HoneyBook Payment System

HoneyBook provides a secure payment processing system with flexible payment options. This option is available only for clients who did NOT find us through Good Dog. (The fee-free payment option through GoodDog is still the better option for most clients and is our preferred payment method, but we offer Honeybook payments to those who choose it. There are additional processing fees for this method.)

Credit/Debit Card Payments:

• Base puppy price: $3,000
• Additional amount to cover 2.9% + $0.25 processing fee: $90.21
• Total price with fee: $3,090.21

Bank Transfer/ACH Payments:

• Base puppy price: $3,000
• Additional amount to cover 1.5% processing fee: $45.69
• Total price with fee: $3,045.69

3. Cash Payment

Cash payments are accepted only for in-person transactions at final puppy pickup.

• No additional processing fees
• The reservation fee ($500) must still be made through one of our online payment methods.
• Balance due in cash at pickup

Reservation Fee ($500)

• Due at the time of reservation
• Non-refundable (see Reservation Policy for details)
• Applied toward the total purchase price

Final Payment

• Due when puppies reach 12 weeks of age
• For puppies or adults over 12 weeks, full payment is required to hold
• Payment must be received before pickup/shipping arrangements are finalized
• Puppy contracts must be signed before pick-up/shipping can be arranged

Shipping & Additional Fees

If shipping is required, additional fees will apply:

• Air shipping: Price varies based on current airline rates and crate size
• Ground transportation: Quoted based on distance and specific requirements
• Health certificates and travel documents: Current veterinary rates apply

All shipping fees are due at the time of final payment and are non-refundable once arrangements have been made.

Payment Processing Fee Comparison

The following chart shows the exact costs for various transaction amounts. These calculations accurately account for the “fee on fee” effect (where payment processors also charge their fee on the fee amount itself) to ensure we recover only our exact costs:

* Math calculations are subject to human error, and fees may change if processors (Honebook and GoodDog) raise their fees. We will double check the fees and math before invoicing each new client. 

Q: Why do you charge different amounts for different payment methods? A: Each payment processor charges us different fees. Rather than building these costs into our base price and charging everyone the same higher amount, we transparently pass along only the actual cost of your chosen payment method.

Q: Can I pay with Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or personal checks? A: No. For security and consistency, we only accept payments through our approved methods: Good Dog, HoneyBook, or cash (for in-person pickup only).

Q: If I found you through Good Dog, can I pay through HoneyBook instead? A: No. You and I have agreed to Good Dog’s Terms of Service, which require all transactions to be processed through their platform when a buyer discovers a breeder through Good Dog.

Q: Can I split my payment between multiple methods? A: Generally, we require the reservation fee and final payment to be made using the same method. However, exceptions may be made in certain circumstances. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation.

Q: What happens if my payment is declined? A: If your payment is declined, we’ll reach out to you to arrange an alternative payment method. However, we cannot hold a puppy without a successful payment.
