Maremma Pricing by Age
Prancing Pony Maremmas increase in price as they mature. Older puppies, adolescents and adults have received additional months of livestock exposure, socialization, training, handling, observation, and development on our farm.
12 weeks–5 months: $3,500
6–11 months: $3,750
12–17 months: $4,000
18–23 months: $4,500
24+ months: Starting at $5,000
Individual dogs may be priced differently based on health, training, breeding status, background, or special placement circumstances.

PennHIP-Evaluated puppies:
Once in a while, a puppy has already had her own hips PennHIP tested before being listed. These puppies are priced at the regular age price + $500 to cover the cost of testing.

PennHIP-Evaluated Maremma Puppies
Every puppy here comes from parents whose hips were evaluated by PennHip and/or OFA before I ever bred them. Once in a while, I also have a puppy available whose own hips have been evaluated with PennHIP. When I do, you'll see the results right on that puppy's card, with the full report to read for yourself.
Here's what those results mean, and how I decide which puppies are listed this way.
What PennHIP measures
PennHIP is a hip X-ray method developed at the University of Pennsylvania. It measures how loose the hip joint is. That looseness is called the Distraction Index, or DI, and it's a major risk factor for hip arthritis later in life.
PennHIP can be done as early as 16 weeks. That means we can learn about a puppy's hips before they ever leave the farm.
How to read a PennHIP score
DI runs from 0 to 1. Lower means tighter hips, and tighter is better. The report uses the looser of the two hips and places it in a risk category:

For reference, the average Maremma in the PennHIP database scores 0.40.
Why some puppies are tested
I PennHIP some puppies from a litter while I'm choosing who stays to join my breeding program. I keep very few, and I raise the bar a little every year. So some lovely puppies with good hips don't stay here.
When one of them meets the standard below, I list them as PennHIP-Evaluated and share the report.
The standard every evaluated puppy meets
A puppy is listed as PennHIP-Evaluated only when the looser hip scores 0.49 or lower (PennHIP's low or mild risk categories) and the report shows no signs of arthritis.
I use PennHIP's own category lines on purpose. That way the standard comes from the report, not from my opinion.
Pricing
PennHIP-Evaluated puppies are their age price plus $500. The $500 covers the test I've already paid for. (Testing runs about $500-600 for a 16 week old puppy.)
What you get for it is information up front. You see the results before you commit to a puppy, and there's no extra wait for testing before your puppy goes home.
What PennHIP can and can't tell you
PennHIP lowers the odds of hip arthritis. It can't promise a dog will never develop it. Hips are shaped by genetics, and also by growth, weight and exercise as a dog matures.
The report itself notes that arthritis can still appear later in life. Good hips still need good care, and I'll help you with that.
Same guarantee for every puppy
A PennHIP-Evaluated puppy doesn't come with a different guarantee. Every puppy I place carries the same health guarantee and the same lifetime support from me, tested or not.
Puppies must be a minimum of 16 weeks old to be PennHip tested. If you'd rather bring home a younger puppy at their age price, that's a great choice. Their parents' hips were tested, and they come home earlier.
Why you won't always see a PennHip tested puppy listed
PennHIP-Evaluated puppies are occasional. They only come up when a puppy I tested for my own program meets the standard and isn't staying. If you'd like a heads-up when one is listed, send me a message and I'll let you know.

Q: When will puppies be ready to go home?
A: Puppies from this litter will be ready to go home at 12 weeks old. We do not release puppies earlier than 12 weeks to ensure proper socialization and development.
Q: What livestock are these puppies best suited for?
A: Based on both parents' working backgrounds and early observations, these puppies should excel with all livestock types or as family companions. They're being raised with dairy goats and with exposure to 4 types of poultry, horses, mini horses, donkeys, and cats, which provides an excellent foundation for bonding with all types of livestock.
Q: Do you offer delivery or shipping?
A: We offer local pickup at our farm in Lemoore, CA. Air transport can be arranged for an additional fee. For more info, see our shipping/pickup details page.
Q: What's your reservation/waitlist process?
A: Puppies can be reserved with a $500 non-refundable reservation fee after the application process is completed. For more info on our reservation process, go to our reservation policies page.
Q: Can I visit the farm to meet the parents and puppies?
A: Yes! We encourage farm visits for serious applicants. Visits are by appointment only to minimize stress on the puppies and protect biosecurity. Contact us to schedule a visit.
Q: What health testing have the parents completed?
A: Our breeding dogs have completed health testing including PennHip/OFA Hips and Elbows and DNA testing. You can view full results on each dog's profile page. We follow MSCA Code of Ethics requirements for all breeding dogs.
Q: Can I breed my Prancing Pony Farm Maremma?
A: Most puppies are sold on Limited registration, which means they can't be bred. Breeding rights are available for select puppies going to approved homes. We require a separate breeding agreement and ongoing health testing compliance. For more info see our Breeding Candidates Program page.
Q: Can I visit the farm to meet the parents and puppies?
A: Yes, with a paid one-hour consultation. You’ll meet Kim and our Maremmas, and see how they live and work. The $100 fee is non-refundable, and the full amount goes toward a puppy if you reserve within 7 days. Consultations are on weekdays from 12 to 5 for up to 6 people, including children. Saturdays are available by special arrangement. A consultation doesn’t reserve a puppy, and puppies are never picked up on the same day.

Get on the email list
This is where everyone starts. You'll receive several emails over the next week or two covering our program, our dogs, and what successful Maremma ownership actually looks like. This gives you everything you need to decide if we're the right fit — before either of us invests more time.
Step 2
Complete our application
When you're ready to move forward, you'll fill out my application. It tells me what you're looking for in a dog before we ever talk. After it comes in, you can book a private call with me. That's where we figure out together whether one of my dogs is the right match for you.
Step 3
Reserve your dog
Reservations start with a $500 non-refundable Master Reservation Fee that holds your place in line and applies toward your purchase price. When a litter is confirmed, a second $500 Litter Commitment Payment locks your specific spot — bringing your total to $1,000, all applied toward your purchase price.
Have a current litter available right now? If spots on an announced litter are open, you can skip the line and reserve directly with a single $1,000 Litter Reservation — same total investment, one step. I'll let you know when you apply if that option is currently available.
Full payment is required to hold puppies and dogs 12 weeks or older.
