Hello Reader, How’s it going? Life on the farm has been busy but great. Fall is finally here – yay! Of course, fall on a dairy goat farm means stinky bucks in rut, but oh well, that’s part of the package! (I have a dear friend who loves the smell of bucks in rut. Crazy!) I have a massive 6-month project coming up and have been working like crazy, trying to get caught up on other projects before the new one starts. I don’t seem to be making as much headway as I would like, but I’ll make it all work. So, what is this massive project that’s got me all in a tizzy? Well, it’s exciting and a bit scary, but it will significantly impact my Maremma Sheepdog breeding program when done. Ta-da! Yep, I’m going to school! I have been accepted into the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional Program! Starting October 9th, I will begin my 6-month journey to becoming a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner. The course will primarily be online, with a final workshop to attend in April. Why am I doing this? Simply put, I want to provide better training for the Maremma Sheepdogs I breed and better support to my clients and anyone else who needs help training their LGDs. If you would like to read more about the Karen Pryor Academy Professional program, why I chose it, and how I plan to use what I learn to serve dogs and humans alike, then go to my website and read my new blog post all about it. I will share my journey with the program and lots of helpful dog training information (including video tutorials) as I go through the program, so stay tuned to this email list! Oh, and two more very exciting events are happening in 2024. Our youngest daughter is having her second baby in March. Our oldest son and his wife are having their fourth baby in May. (Both families live on the east coast.) These will be our 13th and 14th grandchildren! So exciting! So, between studying and practicing for the Professional program, attending the workshop in April, a new grandbaby in March, and another in May, I am going to be unbelievably busy! Therefore, our 2024 kidding season is going to be extremely limited. I haven’t entirely worked out the details, but there will be very few available kids, and the ones we have will come later in the year than usual. However, we do still have a few 2023 kids, and we have adult does for sale. We will also offer bred does for those who still want spring babies. But supplies will be extremely limited, so make your reservations ASAP! See below for links to more information on the Professional program and how to ensure you don’t miss out on Mini Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf goats! Recent articles That’s all for now! Let me know if you have any questions about Maremma Sheepdogs or dairy goats, or if you have anything you’d like to share. Just hit reply to this e-mail and say hello!
