Directions to Our Farm

Step 1: Getting Here from Highway 41

I'm very easy to get to — we're about a mile or so directly off Highway 41, which makes me accessible from almost anywhere in California.

Once you turn onto Fremont Ave, follow it down and start watching for these landmarks. They'll let you know you're getting close.

🏚️ Look for: The strange-looking neighbor's place on your left

You'll pass a property on the left with a tin wall around it — kind of junky-looking, like a compound or junkyard of some kind. Hard to miss. That's my neighbor's place. Keep going.

🌾 Right after that: Open hayfield, then my fences begin

You'll see a big open field — that's my hayfield. Immediately after that, you'll see pipe fencing with horse no-climb wire, and animals out in the pastures: goats, horses, and lots of Maremmas on duty. That's us!

STEP 2 — How to Know You're in the Right Place

🐕 You'll hear the dogs before you see the gate.

I have a lot of Maremma Sheepdogs. When you pull up, they will absolutely let you know you've arrived — and believe me, you cannot miss it. It's my Maremma security system. Nothing gets past them. If there's no barking, you're not in the right place. If there's a lot of barking, you are exactly where you're supposed to be.

You're welcome to text me, but it's not necessary. I'll come right out.

Once I come outside and greet you, the dogs will figure out quickly that you're a welcome guest and most of them will go back to their naps. Just give it a minute.

⚠️ A note about mama dogs and young pups

If I have a mama dog with very young puppies, she may stay vocal a little longer — that's just her protective instincts. When I know someone is coming, I'll usually move her inside the puppy parlor ahead of time so her energy doesn't influence the other young dogs. If things need a moment to settle when you arrive, I'll ask you to hang tight for just a minute.

How to spot my house

(in case you need a visual reference): It's a bluish-gray house with a large white horse riding arena behind it that's visible from the road. If I'm home, you'll usually see my white van with the Prancing Pony Farm logo on the back parked in the circular concrete driveway.

Step 3: Where to Turn In — This Is the Part People Miss!

This is where most people get confused, so read this part carefully.

Along the road, you'll see a long stretch of fencing — about 200 feet — with my puppy parlor building inside the pasture. You want to turn in at the gravel road that runs alongside that fence. Do NOT turn into my house driveway — that's further down the road.

🪧 Look for: My big purple and white farm sign on the fence

It's 4 feet tall and impossible to miss. The sign sits right at the corner of the fence where the gravel road begins.

🗑️ Look for: A dumpster on the opposite side of the road

The turn-in point is right between the dumpster on one side and my big sign on the other. Pull in between them and follow the gravel road down.

⚠️ If you reach my circular concrete driveway, you've gone too far.

You'll have passed the barn road. You can pull into the house driveway to turn around, but come back to the gravel road by the sign. For goat pickups especially, parking at the right spot makes a real difference — more on that below.

Step 4: Where to Park Once You're on the Barn Road

Once you've turned onto the gravel road, drive down until you're parallel with the puppy parlor building and the small gate in the fence. Stop here. Do not keep driving.

🏠 The puppy parlor: Tan building with red trim, inside the pasture

This is where I raise my puppies. When you're parallel with this building, you're in the right spot. Park anywhere along that stretch.

🏚️ Small gray Tuff Shed next to the gate

There's a small gray storage shed right next to the gate — I keep extra dog supplies in there. The gate you want is just past that shed.

🚧 Watch for a traffic cone in the middle of the road.

When I know someone is coming and have time, I place a large traffic cone at the point where you should stop. If it's there, park behind it. If I didn't get to it in time, use the puppy parlor building and gate as your landmark instead.

⚠️ If you drive past the tan building, you've gone too far.

There's another gated road on the opposite side of the pasture, but it's not used so keep going to the road by the dumpster and the farm sign. Once you're on the road if you go too far past the gate and the grey shed you'll run into the back of the property near the horse barn, which is a no-visitor area. My working Maremmas back there take their job very seriously and won't appreciate the company!

✅ Park here:

  • Parallel to the tan and red puppy parlor building
  • Near the small gray shed and gate
  • Behind any traffic cone I've set out

🚫 Don't go here:

  • Past the tan building
  • The road on the far side of the pasture
  • Back by the horse barn

🐾 Please Read: Being Safe Around the Dogs

These are working livestock guardian dogs. They are on duty protecting the goats, the puppies, and the property. They are not here to greet strangers, and I ask that you respect their space.

LGD Safety Rules for Visitors

Rule 1: 🚫 Do not pet any dog unless I specifically invite you to. Please don't reach over or through the fence to touch a dog — this includes puppies you can see through the fence.

Rule 2:Wait for my introduction. If you're here to visit a specific dog or puppy, I'll bring them to you and let the dog get comfortable before you interact. Let the dog set the pace.

Rule 3: 🦮 Some dogs are friendlier with strangers than others. I may bring one of my more sociable dogs out to help younger puppies feel relaxed around you — that's intentional and a normal part of the visit.

Rule 4:👫 Children are welcome, with supervision. I love having families visit. Just make sure little ones don't run toward the fence or try to pet dogs without being invited. I'll guide everyone through safe interactions.

Once introductions are done and everyone has settled, things relax quite a bit — I promise it's not as intense as the arrival sounds! The dogs just take their job seriously, and honestly, that's exactly what you want from livestock guardian dogs.

🐐 Coming for a Goat Pickup?

This page covers arrivals for both dog and goat pickups — the directions and parking instructions are the same regardless of what you're picking up.

For goat pickups, I'll generally ask you to wait near the gate rather than coming into the main area. This keeps things calm for the animals and easier for both of us. I'll bring your goat(s) out to you at the gate.

If I have puppies at the right age for visitors, I may invite you to meet them briefly — especially if you have children along. It's not guaranteed, but feel free to mention ahead of time if a puppy visit would be meaningful for your family. I'll do my best to make it happen.

One heads-up: goats aren't always leash-trained and can be heavier than they look! Parking at the correct spot really does make the whole transfer easier. 😄
