Electra: Friendly Adult Female Maremma Who's Patient With Puppies

A proven LGD, retired from breeding and ready to mentor the next generation on your farm.

Electra has been a reliable livestock guardian dog on my farm for about six years. She's friendly and affectionate with people, settled and mature with livestock, and generally patient with puppies. (Not all adult dogs are.) If you've been hoping to bring home an adult and a younger dog together, she's the dog I'd point you to first.

Where Electra Came From

Electra has been part of my breeding program since she was a baby. I chose her as my pick of the litter from a stud service, brought her home at 8 weeks old, and raised her here. Her dam, Silessia's Ballsey, also produced Gianna, the foundation female of my registered program. Her sire, Sevro, is my foundation stud.

Electra whelped four litters for us and is now retired from breeding. She could stay here, and she'd be loved. But here she's one of many. I'm placing her because she deserves to be someone's main dog: the one you see first every morning, the one the whole household adores.

What to Know Before You Apply

She's not being sold for breeding. She is being sold on a spay contract, and the buyer covers the spay cost. My vet can spay her before pickup, so she goes home recovered and ready to work, or your own vet can do it on a timeline we set in her contract.

She's choosy about other females. Electra is great with male dogs. With females, she gets along with some and not others. If you already have a female dog, we'll talk it through before you apply, and I may say she's not the right match.

Her hip and elbow scores are good.  OFA rated her hips Fair, and her PennHIP scores are R 0.35 & L 0.45, putting her at mild risk for developing OA. Her elbows are OFA Normal with no signs of elbow dysplasia. She moves comfortably and works full days. You can see her test results on her breeding profile page.

She'll set boundaries with young dogs. Electra is sweet with some attitude. She'll tell a pushy youngster where the line is, calmly, and then go right back to being friends. She never bullies. In a mentor, that's exactly what you want.

Who Electra Is Now

  • Work: A reliable livestock guardian dog who guards goats, poultry, and horses on my farm. Generally good with cats.
  • People: Very friendly and affectionate. She loves attention and adapts well to new people.
  • Training: Well-mannered. Walks well on leash, comfortable at the vet and with new experiences.
  • Other dogs: Great with males. Selective with females.
  • Young dogs: Patient and steady. She's the best adult-and-adolescent option in my program.
  • Personality: Sweet, with a little attitude.

The Right Home for Electra

Electra will thrive with:

  • A farm that needs an experienced LGD now
  • A family who wants an adult plus one or two older puppies or adolescents
  • A home with a resident adult or adolescent male LGD
  • First-time LGD owners who want a predictable, proven dog
  • Families with kids who want a friendly, safe LGD

Electra is not the right dog for:

    • Breeding. She's being retired from breeding and will be sold on a spay contract.
    • A home with a resident female LGD
    • Single-dog homes. Electra has lived and worked with other Maremmas her entire life. It would be unfair to expect her to live a life as a single dog now.
    • Homes with companion dogs she's expected to interact with. Electra has only been around other Maremmas, not any other breeds. Integrating her with other breeds at this stage of her life would be risky.

    Pairing Options for Electra

Electra is my first recommendation for anyone who wants an adult to bring along a younger dog. Good pairings:

    • An adult male
    • One male adolescent
    • Two older puppies or adolescents: two males, or a male and a female

"I can’t say enough good things about Kim Crawmer and Prancing Pony Farm. From the very beginning, Kim was kind, patient, and genuinely interested in understanding what kind of dog would fit best with our life here on Maui — our land, our lifestyle, and our hearts. She picked Caia for us, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect match. Caia is confident, adaptable, and sweet. She handled everything — the long trip to Hawaii, the chaos of construction at our house, meeting new people, learning about beaches and island life — with so much calm and curiosity. That doesn’t just happen by chance. It’s the result of all the work, socialization, and care Kim puts into her puppies from the start."

Think Electra Could Be Your Dog?

Tell me about your farm, your livestock, and any dogs you already have. If Electra looks like a good match, we'll set up a call and talk through pairings, her spay, and her move.

I'm talking with several families at a time, and only a paid reservation holds a dog. If you're serious about Electra, don't wait. Dogs like her don't last long.
