Why We Require Email Signup Before Applications
We're not trying to be difficult. Here's why this matters:
30% of livestock guardian dogs fail. Not because they're bad dogs, but because buyers weren't prepared for success.
The families who succeed with our Maremmas share one thing in common: they educated themselves before applying.
They understood:
- What proper LGD breeding actually looks like
- Why health testing is non-negotiable
- How early socialization determines lifetime success
- What realistic timelines and expectations are
- Why lifetime breeder support matters
Our email series gives you this foundation in a few days.
Then, if you decide to apply, you'll have an educated, productive conversation by email or during our free consultation call—not a sales pitch full of information you're hearing for the first time.
This approach protects both of us. We only want to work with families who are truly prepared for success.
Before You Apply: Can You Manage Your Dogs and Livestock?
Every Prancing Pony Maremma is raised with livestock from a few weeks old. But a puppy isn't a livestock guardian yet. Until your dogs mature, around two years old for fragile animals, you'll need to manage who's together and when.
Before you apply, make sure you can:
- Keep puppies and young dogs separated from newborn lambs, kids, calves, foals, crias, and poultry, with a fence line between them
- Supervise or separate whenever something changes: animals in heat, weather changes, new stock, visitors, or a dog's teenage phase
- Set up a small, secure area for your dogs at feeding time, when you can't monitor their interactions with the stock or when they go through a rowdy teenage stage
- Adjust your setup for a season or two, even when it's inconvenient
This is temporary. It's also not optional. Families who do end up with dogs they trust completely, and animals they never have to lock up at night.
If you're not sure how this would work on your farm, book a call with me to discuss it first. That's exactly what it's for.
Choose Your Path
All the options give you the same educational content. The quizzes just personalize your experience based on your specific situation.
Sleep Peacefully Knowing Your Livestock and Family are Safe
Here's what makes our program different:
- ✓ Health-tested parents (PennHip/OFA & DNA) - minimizes the risk of crippling vet bills later
- ✓ Raised with livestock from birth - ready to work, not relearn everything
- ✓ 2-year health guarantee - we stand behind our dogs
- ✓ Lifetime breeder & trainer support - you're never left to figure it out alone
You know the heartbreak of losing animals to predators. Whether it's happened to you or you're determined to prevent it, you need a livestock guardian dog you can count on—not one that creates more problems than it solves.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does signing up reserve a puppy?
No. Joining our email list is purely educational. Puppy reservations only happen after a formal application, optional consultation call, and mutual agreement that it's the right fit. The email series helps you decide if you even want to apply.
Q: How long is the waitlist?
Current wait times vary by season. The email series will give you current availability information and explain our reservation process. Typically, families plan 3-12 months ahead.
Q: What if I decide not to get a Maremma from you?
That's completely fine! Many of our email subscribers never buy from us, and that's okay. Our goal is to help you succeed with whatever LGD you choose. The information is valuable regardless of where you get your dog.
Q: Will you spam me with sales emails?
No. You'll receive a series of educational emails over the first week, then one email per week on Thursdays. Every email provides value, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
Q: Can I just apply now without the emails?
We've found that families who go through the educational content first have much higher success rates. The email series answers 90% of the questions that come up during consultation calls, making those conversations more productive. We ask everyone to start with the education first.
Q: How much do your puppies cost?
Our Maremma puppies are $3,500 and include health testing, extensive socialization, and lifetime support. The email series explains why this investment actually saves money long-term compared to "cheaper" alternatives.
