Ethically bred, professionally trained livestock guardian dogs and family companions
Livestock Guadian Dog Consulting
Hi Reader,
Quick farm update from Prancing Pony Farm—lots happening here, and I wanted to share what we’ve been up to.
The Puppy Series is Complete!
After nine weeks of writing (my brain needed a break!), I finally finished the complete series on how we raise and train our livestock guardian dog puppies.
If you’ve been curious about our program, what goes into properly preparing an LGD puppy, or what to look for in any breeder, this is everything. I built it all into a hub page with all nine parts plus additional resources.
This is honestly one of the best resources I’ve created for understanding both what WE do specifically and what ANY ethical LGD breeder should be doing. Whether you’re shopping for a puppy now or just learning about livestock guardian dogs, this will give you the full picture.
Wondering What it’s Like to Work With Me as a Breeder?
Just read the Google review from Sarah, who recently brought her own Prancing Pony Maremma, Caia, home to Hawaii. Caia is loving island life with Casey and Sarah, and they adore Caia!
Puppy Parlor Getting Major Upgrades
We’ve got construction happening around here! New concrete pads going in for the puppy kennels, new kennel roofs, and several other improvements to make the puppy raising area even better.
It’s a bit chaotic with all the work happening (the dogs think it’s all very exciting), but the end result is going to be fantastic. I’ll share some before-and-after photos once everything’s done.
Puppies Ready to Go Home
Speaking of puppies—we have 12-week-old Maremma puppies ready to go home this week. (The first puppy, Luna, left on Monday to join her new family and more are leaving soon) If you or someone you know has been thinking about getting a livestock guardian dog, this is genuinely the perfect timing window.
The weather is ideal for shipping (not too hot, not too cold), and at 12 weeks these puppies still fit in smaller crates, which saves considerably on shipping costs compared to waiting even a few more weeks.
We have both males and females available, plus some older puppies and adolescent dogs for anyone looking for a bit more maturity and training.
12-week-old Luna meeting her new family, including her new BFF, Lucy the pug
That’s what’s happening here at the farm! The weather’s beautiful, the construction crews are busy, and we’ve got healthy, happy puppies thriving and ready to make your life complete! 💜
As always, if you have questions about anything livestock guardian dog or goat related, just hit reply—I’m always happy to help.
Talk soon,
Kim
